Ceramic Bearings (Hybrid or Full)
Characteristics: Si3N4 or ZrO2 balls; chrome steel or Inconel rings (hybrid); full ceramic (all parts ceramic).
Advantages: Speed 50% higher than all-steel due to lower density (60% lighter balls). Lifetime in electric motors: eliminates electrical arcing damage (standard bearings fail in 500h due to EDM fluting).
Technical Ceiling: Temperature range -200°C to +1000°C (full ceramic); breakdown voltage >1000 V (hybrid); max speed DN 2.5 million; fracture toughness 7 MPa·m^1/2.
Caution: Hybrid bearings require conductive grease for EDM protection - standard grease does not. Full ceramic has low load capacity (1/3 of steel) and cannot handle shock. Press fits may crack ceramic rings - use very loose fit.
Ceramic Bearings are high-performance rolling bearings utilizing ceramic rolling elements (balls or rollers) and, in full ceramic versions, ceramic rings as well. These bearings offer exceptional properties including ultra-high speed capability, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, lightweight construction, and extended service life in demanding environments where conventional steel bearings underperform.
